Our College Held Appointed-Curriculum Teaching Seminar

    On the afternoon of March 17th 2011, in multimedia classroom of Innovative Experimental College was held college appointed-curriculum teaching seminar of the second semester of 2010-2011 school year. Teacher representatives , superintendents of University Academic Division and colleges concerned, along with the supervisors and teaching secretaries of Innovative Experimental College attended the seminar. Outcome of appointed teaching and ideas and practice in curriculum reform were both put into agenda before suggestion and advice as to the promotion of appointed teaching being proposed. Professor Wang Guodong, Dean of Innovative Experimental College presided over the meeting. 

    At the conference, teachers present shared their ideas and experience in curriculum reform , and  deliberated on how to inspire students' learning interest, how to manage well the self assessment, how to take advantage of the network teaching and how to improve students' quality in scientific research.

    It was agreed that the past three years witnessed the progress of appointed teaching system. More new innovative approaches in teaching reformed were tested and approved, represented by the interactive teaching method functioning to motivate students' passion in self-study. Some teachers strategically designed class discussion actitivty, which served as part of exploration in curriculum reform, inspiring the students to think with innovation and initiation, to be bold in challenge authorities and to break the thinking set, which improved their self study ability and arouse their interest in innovation as well. Whereas, some other teachers voiced their ideas that student's enthusiasm in study need maintaining, especially that of freshmen who were smart-thinking and passionate in learning. Therefore, they focused on offering guidance for students establishing correct values and learning perspectives. Also, other teachers emphasized the importance of academic research, who suggested college be responsible for offering students sufficient space and good climate for academic research, by organizing academic reports and scientific research activities to stimulate their passion in research and by releasing their curriculum burden for sparing more time to do the research.

    Dean of Innovative Experimental College, Professor Wang Guodong detailed the objectives of reform in appointed teaching system. He pointed out that to construct university elaborate courses took priority of other college works, which required 3 to 5-year constant trails and errors of appointed teachers and their devotion to the appointed teaching system. He also proposed that the construction and the promotion of college elaborate courses called for the innovative teaching and bold exploration.

    Executive Vice Dean of college, Professor Chen Yuchun spoke highly of the importance of teachers in teaching reform. Teacher had been considered major force in developing teaching reform, whose power in teaching, out of the fulfilment of appointed teaching system, never should  be overlooked but be reinforced. College will concentrates on compacting hours of class teaching while increasing time for self study, and will stress the primary education. He also put forward his expectation that the teachers take advantage of the appointed teaching system and two years proceeding experience in teaching reform, to design new methods of teaching and evaluation via associating the characteristics of curriculum with students interest, to making request of teaching conditions, and to construct elaborate courses in terms of team teaching.

    Li Haihua, Deputy Director of University Academic Division also showed her approval of teachers' importance. She stated that teachers were supposed to put into teaching practice of the cultivating students' innovative ability, which was both the orientation and basic requirement of teaching reform in our university. Our university, she said, would be supportive in teaching practice and management to guarantee teachers team-building going smoothly by offering sufficient teaching condition. She also suggested and required that teachers concerned timely generalize and promote the accomplishment of teaching reform to serve as the demonstration of university-wide curriculum reform, make full use of the network teaching material for the curriculum involved to build the interaction platform for students on-line study, demonstrate the achievement of reform in teaching content and method to promote the university-wide teaching reform.
