    From March 28th to March 30th, Professor Edwin Kroese and Doctor René Kwakkel from Wageningen University visited our university, making the beginning the selection phase of Honor Students Program of Wageningen University and NWAFU. During their visit, they focused on interviewing the students in this program, to select the qualified ones and determined the amount of scholarship offered to students enrolled. 37 students who had finished all required courses and submitted thesis proposals participated the selection. 18 students in Animal Science Discipline all come from College of Innovative Experiment. Of 19 students in Economics and Administration discipline, 9 were from our college, while 8 from College of Economics and Management and 2 from College of Humanities.

    On the morning of 28th, in the multimedia classroom of our college, Professor René Kwakkel presided a meeting for the students in this program. He introduced Wageningen University about its educational system and campus life. He also informed in details the students the requirements for Mater Degree study at Wageningen University, including the IELTS score. Responsive to the questions raised by students, he exchanged ideas with the students on necessary preparation for study at Wageningen University.

    On the afternoon of 28th and the morning of 29th, Professor Edwin Kroese and Doctor René Kwakkel separated the students into groups of Economics and Management and Animal Science, and conducted 25 to 30-minute interview with each single student. Questions from interviewers and inquire of interviewees both took up half of the time. Foreign teachers concentrated their questions on how the students view the program, what motivated them willing to study at Wageningen University and what they would like to specialize in as their research orientation. They also raised questions about students’ occupational planning and evaluated their language literacy. Interviewee students consulted the foreign teachers about life and study the students were interested in. Communicating with the students and recording the feedbacks from students, the foreign teachers fully examined students’ comprehensive ability and made individual study program for each single student.

    On morning of 30th, having evaluated students’ academic records and performance in interview, the foreign teachers, together with leaders from NWUAF International Communication and Exchange Office and College of Innovative Experiment, drafted the name list of selected-students.

    In the same afternoon, they talked to the students whom they intended to offer scholarship, making known to the students final result and other detailed information of their academic records. For the sake of mutual satisfaction, they also asked for the students’ opinion of studying at University. The students had one week left before making final decision.

    With reference to both the selection result and students’ personal option, Wageningen University intends to offer full scholarship amounting to 20,000 Euro to 11 students (5 in Animal Science Discipline and 6 in Economics and Management Discipline), and 25-75% tuition waivior to another 6 students in Economics and Management Discipline. The students who haven’t finished the required courses will be offered 25-50% tuition wavior, dependent on their application and courses finished taken account. Students who had been selected are supposed to submit required application material online before May 31th. In addition, before going to Wageningen University for Master Degree, they are required to finish the Bachelor program study with qualified scores and pass the IELTS with the minimum score of 6.0 (Animal Science) or 6.5 (Economics and Management). Students should be well-prepared for the living expenses at University. It is said that they will conduct another visit to our university in the late of June, to award Certificate of Distinction to students participating in the program.

    During the visit, representatives from Wageningen University attended the symposium with leaders concerned from our university International Coorperation and Exchange Office, Academic Office, College of Economics and Management, College of Animal Science and College of Innovative Experiment. They had deliberation on the problems in previous programme and arrangement for next phase. On the afternoon of 30th, Doctor René Kwakkel delivered two  academic reports for teacher and students of College of Animal Science, Brief Introduction to Animal Nutrition and Diet Structure and Its Consequences for Metabolism in Poultry.
