Yangling History and NWAFU Spirit

On the evening of October 31st, over 150 students from CIE, College of Food Science and Engineering and students of Enology College, attended the report themed on Yangling History and NWAFU Spirit, one of series of lectures on Chinese ancient civilization. The report hosted by CIE was held in south hall of Xiushan activity center on north campus. Professor Chen Yuchun was invited as lectuerer, while Mz. Deng Yali Deputy Party Secretary of Enology College served as hostess.

“Yangling boasts a long history and we are all Chinese descendant. With this opening remark, Professor Chen introduced the history of Yangling district. From the origin of names to the sacred and profound agricultural civilization to the numerous heroes on this land, he cited the classics and the historical events in a profound way.

Afterwards, Professor Chen related the establishement of our university: In the time of national crisis resulted from war and natural disasters, Mr. Yu Youren with determination to serve to our nation, made great efforts to facilitate the found of our univeristy. It was also he who set the tone of eductional philosphy of the new university--- Agriculture is the foundation of a nation and food stablizes people’s life. The moral construction can contribute a solid foundation for the society. And he also oriented the mission of NWAFU is to cultivate a bunch of talents to revitalize China’s economy.

In the ending of the lecture, Professor Chen shared with students about his understanding of the university spirit. He said: “ The mission and spirit of college lies in the down-to-earth spirit. As NWAFUer, one should embrace a profound feelings to agriculture, rural areas and farmers. The students should root themselves in the society, make pioneering efforts and adopt a world view and international vision and always remember the school motto---Honesty, Simplicity, Boldness and Perseverance and carry forward the spirit.”

The well-illustrated report left great impression to the audience. Its profound content and witty language furthered the students’ understanding of NWAFU, intensified their sense of identity proudness and inspired their study initiative.
