Briefing on Biology Field Practice of Our College Students in Qinling Mountains

According to the curriculum schedule designed by A & F Academic Division, on the morning of June 4th, after five-hour bus trip, 218 students from College of Innovative Experiment including all students of grade 2010 and Animal Science majors of grade 2009, came to Huoditang practice base in Qinling mountains for their one-week biology field practice.

With curiosity and excitement, the students have been there for three days and finished half of their practice and study. In practice of zoology and botany, the instructors conducted teachings befitting the local conditions, showing the biological features, identification and capturing method of whatever animals and plants they met. All students were careful and patient in observing and taking notes, following the instruction of their teachers. In meteorology practice, the team with preceding effort on hundreds of twisting ghat finally climbed to alpine meadow where they learnt to examine the air course, air direction and temperature with apparatus.

In practice of pedology and ecology, assisted by the teachers, the students had access to observing the vertical distribution of different vegetation and the soil characteristics in the area of different elevation, enhancing the primary knowledge of each subject.

June 6th was just the Chinese traditional Dragon Boat Festival. To celebrate the festival, our college at the base organized a 2-hour party of distinction, at which all students were active and eager to show their talents in form of solo performance, dancing and songs remix. The party was a cheerful and lively one that enabled the students to get relaxed both physically and psychologically, while made them enjoy the happiness of group activity which consequently enhanced the group cohesion.

The life was busy but enjoyable, for the practice not only strengthens the command of text knowledge, but also serves to improve the practical abilities of the students and develops a strong sense of group honor and responsibility among them as well. The students would acquire more knowledge and skills in sequence days and would get more motivated in academic study, as all students expected.
