From: CIE Teaching Affairs Office      By: Qin runwen & Ma Chuan      Date: 2016-11-02

What is Chinese ancient civilization and how it develops? The answers were revealed at the lecture given by Professor Guo Fengping of College of Humanities on the evening of October 30th. Students of Youren College had an inspiring night in the hall of Xiushan Center. CIE Party Secretary Mz. Li Haihua attended as the hostess of this activity.

Professor Guo opened the evening event with a piece of impressive musical of Qinqiang opera and Huangmei opera with the supporting cast of Professor Wang Yuxiu from College of Sciences. Their perfect cooperation and beautiful singing greatly arouse the interest of the audience and won thundering applause.

Professor Guo demonstrated the origin and status quo in his speech. Speaking of the Chinese ancient civilization in modern times, Mr. Guo shared with the audience that, “Quintessence of Chinese culture is the essence of Chinese traditional culture which doesn’t necessarily mean all cultures are quintessence. It actually refers to the original creativity of a nation’s culture.” Taking the opera as example, the knowledgeable speaker showed the audience the significance of opera in ideological and cultural education.

This report furthered the students’ understanding of quintessence of Chinese culture and intrigued them greatly. Series of lectures on Chinese ancient civilization will be organized to promote the construction of college culture and improve the students’ literacy of Chinese traditional culture.
