From: CIE Teaching Affairs Office      By: Zhong Luying , Zhang Yujia, Huang Yiju & Ma Chuan      Date: 2018-11-20

On the afternoon of November 12th, Poster Exhibition and Competition of Y2016 NWAFU Innovation Training Project for College Students sponsored by NWAFU Academic Affairs Office and Youren College was held on the Cultural Square of Youren College. This event is designed to promote students interest in research, improve their communication competence, broaden their views of academic study and build inspiring climate for research. CIE Associate Dean Wang Xiaoping presided over the opening ceremony.

At the ceremony, Deputy Director of Academic Affairs Division, Pan Rui pointed out in his speech, that this competition is an important demonstration of the Innovative Training Program for College Students. He hoped that students will actively participate in academic competitions and various innovation and entrepreneurial activities with innovative thinking and bold courage, and strive to cultivate themselves into top-notch innovative talents. Then, the teacher representative Zhang Linsheng expounded the significance of this activity in terms of hands-on ability, team spirit and group learning. Liu Tianjun, CIE Associated Dean, introduced the characteristics of the event and the importance of talents cultivation in terms of the scale of the competition, the topics, the research content, and the extent of integration of disciplines.

The academic poster of the scientific research project is an important form to display scientific research achievements, and an important communication carrier and method popular in the academic domain. This activity has been held for five consecutive sessions since its inception in 2014. This activity has greatly enhanced the students' ability to display experimental results and express research ideas in academic language, and strengthened academic exchanges. Since its inception, it has been well received by teachers and students.

At its launch in October, the competition has had over 81 works involved in preliminary. 44 works from College of Food Science and Engineering, College of Enology, College of Veterinary Medicine, College of Animal Science, College of Humanities and Social Development and CIE won the seats for the final competition. The candidates stood by their respective exhibition boards to explain in detail the research ideas, research contents, and achievements at the current stage. Eleven professors from various departments served as the judges of the contest. The judges also provided practical suggestions  for the participants while listening to the report.

Professor Zhang Linsheng from the College of Life Science said: "Poster exhibition is a very good way in improving students' ability to do research, allocate time and summarize main ideas. From topic selection to achievement summary, the team needs to complete the study totally on their own. It is the same with the Master and Ph.D. study, while the only difference is the depth of their research. I hope all candidates can see the event an opportunity to exercise their experimental skills and to lay a solid foundation for future research work."

Wang Yilin, a candidate, said: “Poster exhibition and competition is a mutual exchange and sharing activity. It builds a bridge of communication between classmates, and students and teachers. Different opinions and suggestions are obtained by sharing the current experiments. For me and any other contestants, it is a mind-broadened event."

Another contestant, Li Zhenqiang share his feelings: “This is a very good platform. This activity not only enriches my university life, but also improves our communication abilities. It also functions as great motivation and inspiration for our future study and scientific research.”

Song Hanxiong, said : “Dare to explore and dare to try. It is very important to try. Whether you are studying or doing research, only through practicing can you realize your potentials and weakness. This Poster Exhibition gives us a chance to show our achievements.”

Mr. Wang Xiaoping, CIE Associate Dean, spoke highly of the event. He said: "The purpose of this event is to encourage students to participate in scientific research training, master the basic methods of scientific research, and lay a solid foundation for further study in the postgraduate stage. Compared with the previous four Poster Shows, the event attracted more students from different colleges, and the research enthusiasm, depth and breadth of the students have improved. I hope all the CIEers make good use of such a platform, actively participate in scientific research and training, foster teamwork spirit, improve basic research ability, and master basic methods of scientific research with the aid of self-conducted experiments, research and innovation projects, and guidance from instructors. I hope that Poster will continue playing well its important role in your development!”

This activity effectively motivated the students to pursue for knowledge and enthusiasm in scientific innovation ability. It is a stimuli of further and all-around communication between students and colleges, making great contribution to the high-quality talents cultivation.
