CIE Organized Hospital Guiding Volunteer Service
From: Student Affairs Office      By: Yin Boyan      Date: 2018-03-19

On March 19th, CIE and the university’s Department of Social Practice organized hospital guiding volunteer service at Yangling Demonstration Zone Hospital, aiming to help the students develop and practice socialist core values and promote Chinese traditional virtues.

Sincere service and kind attitude

The volunteers were allocated to each floor of the outpatient building. Whether it was in the lobby, CT Scan Room, or Blood Collecting section, the volunteers took the initiative to provide guiding services to the patients. For the elderly patients especially, the volunteers would help them make appointment with the doctor, accompany them to the reception room, and repeatedly check with those who could not hear clearly.

The service was oriented towards the patients and highlighted sincerity, gentleness, consideration, and care. Relevant official in the hospital said that the new outpatient building’s adjustment of department division sometimes troubled the patients, and that the volunteers’ guiding service was valuable to the hospital’s daily operation. The thoughtful service was like an invisible bridge between the hospital and the patients, which allowed the patients feel the humanistic care from the medical institution.

Mutually benefit from the service

The volunteers also gained a lot from this service. Li Shuai from Grade 2017 said, “It can be exhausting to carry the patients between the CT scanner and the stretcher. However, whenever we see the patients gain hope and happiness from our service, we believe our efforts are valuable and significant.” Many patients said to the volunteers, “It is lucky to meet you.”

The activity aimed to promote the spirit of Lei Feng, improved the students’ social responsibility, and honed their organization and interpersonal skills. Hospital guiding volunteer service has been the highlight of CIE’s moral education. More and more CIE students start participating into social practices to make their pieces of contribution.
