Bright and Lively: the Teacher Support in Shuaijia Village

To inherit Innovation Experimental College’s service spirit of volunteering and devotion, the college’s volunteers and the members from the Study Society of Xi Jinping’s Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and the Thought and Study Society went to Shuaijia village for teacher support.

The program focused on the basic after-school education for students in Shuaijia village, helping students identify problems and providing targeted counseling for their weak points. The volunteer teachers were divided into math, English and Chinese groups.

In the study room, volunteers carefully illustrated the exercises for the children sitting next to them who were absorbed in listening. Sometimes the children were active in asking questions when puzzled. During the explanation, a volunteer found problems in a third-grade child's basic pinyin, so he taught him one by one with the tool of an APP. From the beginning of resistance, the child finally could read out the pinyin loudly following the volunteer. The serious and responsible attitude of volunteers was affirmed by the parents and children of Shuaijia village.

Despite the short term, the children's innocent smile has deeply infected the volunteers. These earnest children all have desire for knowledge and talent for learning. The program added to the volunteers’ care and memories. Volunteers not only gained happiness from teaching, but also tasted the hardship as teachers, experiencing the motivation and pressure when facing students’ curiosity. Besides, volunteers got to know that the children were under intense academic pressure, thus hoping to have an opportunity to expose the children to the outside world.

Volunteering will not stop with the end of the aid education. Volunteers will continue to play their role in spreading love and responsibility to various places, bringing everyone love and positive energy. This teacher support expressed the college's care for the growth of the children of migrant workers and further enhanced students’ sense of responsibility in serving the society.
