| | At 7:00 p.m. on October 27th, the 9th English Speaking Contest of Northwest A&F University was held in 207 room in International Communication Center. All 16 contestants from 11 colleges performed noticeably well in the contests. Cui Yi and Sun Runnan, two students from our college won great honor for our college with their excellent presentation and their success of Second Prize and Honor Prize respectively.
Cui Yi is a student in grade 2009 while Sun Runnan is in grade 2010. Both of them specialize in Biotechnology. With full preparation and constant practice, they were in good form and confident at pre-contest stage. In the contest, they impressed the judges and students present with their fluent expression, standard pronunciation, quick-minded response and proper body language. After prepared speech, unprepared speech and answers to questions, they got good results with final score of 90.33 and 89.23 respectively.
This English Speaking Contest was organized by Office of Academic Affairs and sponsored by Department of Foreign Languages. It was available to all students of our university and consisted of preliminary contest, semi-final contest and final contest. Our college organized the preliminary contest as required. 21 students participated in the contest, three of who were selected to go further competition. Before the semi-final and final contests, some experienced English teachers in Department of Foreign Languages invited by our college gave some valuable instructions to our students. With excellent performance, Cui Yi and Sun Runnan stood out of the 60 contestants at semi-final stage and obtained the tickets for final contest.
It is our second time to take part in the English Speaking Contest of our university. The passion and concern of students on the contest never stop growing. Niu Yi, a student of our college won the Third Prize in the contest of last year. In the past two years, our students could always enter the contest and won great prized, which demonstrate their excellent foreign language ability and unique demeanour. Meanwhile, their interest in leaning English is raised with more participation in such activities.
