On January 28th, CIE Dean Chen Yuchun and Party Secretary Ou Wenjuan visited Beijing Genomics Institute of Shenzhen, attending the talk on co-training program of innovative talents and worked out the draft of memo.   

Having been shown the gallery of BGI history, labs and teaching system, and talked with the students representatives of BGI, the delegates were impressed with its development and talents training program.

At the meeting, CIE representatives received warm welcome from Mr. Zhang Gengyun (Associate Dean of BGI College) and Mr. Yang Shuang (Assistant Dean of BGI College). Then, Director of BGI College Affairs Office Yang Dongsheng introduced the college development, with emphasis on the enrollment and training achievements of innovative classes. His report also covered the co-training programs with Southeast University and South China University of Technology, including the training objects, requirements, and “2.5+1.5” system. CIE Dean Mr. Chen Yuchun and Party Secretary Ou Wenjun introduced our university, CIE “2+x” training model, independent course selection system, tutorial system and research training projects. Bearing in mind the change of national enrollment policies, we then put forward our proposition on the co-training of innovative talents. After exchanging ideas of program difference, credit certification, training model and co-curriculum, two parties came to agreement on following aspects: student-centered training and students’ individuality always take priority in innovative talents cultivation; students’ potential in Life Science and their sense responsibility could only be inspired and enhanced by personal interest; the co-training system requires implemented policies to complement the advantages of BGI and CIE.    

Established in October 2011, BGI College has been one of the first group of institutes authorized by municipal government of Shen Zhen. Adopting a well-rounded educational approach and employing an innovative model of talent training, BGI College is building a sophisticated international college to foster interdisciplinary scientific research and establishing an innovative cross-sector educational platform to provide high quality education resources and train talents in bioscience and bioindustry.
