On the evening of 17th Dec, Professor Li Jing of A&F Life Science College and associate researchers Doctor Zhang Liangsheng from Life Science and Technology College of Tongji University gave CIE Y2012 students tutorials, introducing the research they were engaged in and sharing their experience in study and work.

Professor Li Jing is the distinguished professor of A&F Life Science College, who has been working as the group leader of biology and environmental sciences research team in Biology and Environmental Sciences College of University of Helsinki since January 2010, focusing on the study of interrelationship between plants’ growth and environment by means of genomics, proteomics, and metabonomics research. He said that, he came to A&F with his personal dreams and encouraged the students to develop the critical thinking that a scientist should have. He also emphasized the importance of abilities of technology, knowledge and management that interdisciplinary talents are required. Doctor Zhang Liangsheng is an associate researcher of Bio-information department, who proposed that research would be a lifelong career which requires its practitioner to be critical and rational and a lifelong process that fun can be found.

The student of CIE Wang Xiangeng shared his feelings with journalist that, it was a great report given by the two experts who encourage us to lay solid foundation of professional knowledge, to improve critical thinking, to keep the passion in research, and to pursue our dreams of science, down to earth.

The tutorials enhanced CIE students’ understanding of scientific research and gave clear instruction for choosing future mentors.
