CIE students of Bio-science class 141 and class 142 gathered on the evening of January 5th at Youren College. They were having the flipped-class of Mao Zedong Thought and Introduction to the Theoretical System of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics that conducted by Mr. Wang Haicheng and Mr. Qu Endao.

To be specific, this is the third time that this course has been conducted in this new way. At the beginning of this term, each class was divided into three groups that learning online for 4 hours in their spare time. Taking the advantages offered by the NWAFU E-learning center, the students finished the assignment through watching video, listening to music, reading high-quality literature and teachers’ teaching PPT. Then, they had their ideas published onto the bbs which were to receive feedbacks from their classmates and the teachers. 

In the following two hours, the students came to the class for face-to-face group discussion. They were allowed to voice their ideas until come to an agreement that to be presented to the whole class by their group representative. In the discussion session, the teachers walked among the groups and offered instructions any time they need. The teachers then commented on the presentations and gave the students some suggestions for improvement.

Flipped-class teaching method solves some problems of traditional teaching and greatly mobilizes the initiative and creativity of the students. In addition, the students have their ability to comprehend the abstract knowledge enhanced and their abilities to think critically improved, with the free access to communicating with teachers and their peers.
