“It is the new way of thought instead of simple knowledge that we need in learning”, said Mr. Chen Yong, the teacher presiding over open-class of College Computer Fundamentals for CIE Y2016 students. CIE Dean Mr. Ou Wenjun and Associate Dean Mr. Wang Xiaoping joined the activity.

Focusing on the topic of the Word Processing Technique, Mr. Chen’s lecture commenced with word processing and type setting, associated with performance demonstration and experience sharing of some practical techniques. Mr. Chen put great emphasis on the interaction between teacher and students. He, in his way, had the students highly involved in the class activities.

On one of the specific topics, “Is the linewidth the space between two lines of words or between the central lines?”, Mr. Chen encouraged the students to show their ideas to prove their answers. He then commented on the performance and suggested the students design experiments to prove the validity and reliability of their proposals.

From the Ctrl+A to Ctrl+shift+=, Mr. Chen shared with the students many a tip in word processing. His class was a great inspiration to the new starters. What impressed most was the his teaching philosophy of developing students’ innovative thoughts---making oneself a thoughtful man by acquiring skills in learning.  

His provoking idea was highly appreciated and admired by his students. Zheng Renwei, a student of Bio-tech class 161 said, “ What we learn from Mr. Chen’s class is not only practical knowledge but also way of learning. His lecture greatly broadens our horizon and make us be exposed to the development of IT. His strictness in teaching and wit in expressing showed his charisma and greatly intrigued us in self-learning and class activity. “
