On the afternoon of October 11th, all CIE freshmen flooded to the lecture themed on Characteristics of College English and Learning Methods, given by Professor Huang Shishou, the retired teacher of our university.
First of all, Professor Huang conducted a brief self-introduction and personal experience in study and teaching.
Then, Professor Huang talked about the four characteristics of college English: the large number of class hours, the up-to-date content, the quick pace of teaching syllabus and the demanding teaching assignments. To handle the foreign language learning in a more efficient way, Professor Huang proposed five suggestions: turning passive learning style to active one, being more involved in curriculum activities, developing good learning habits, taking good advantage of modern teaching and learning facilities and improving core competitiveness.
Last, Professor Huang encouraged the students to work hard, stay true to their mission and practice more in English learning. He quoted a comments from renowned mathematician professor Su Buqing as the conclusion, “Foreign language is an essential tool to browse the international literature and to exchange ideas of advanced science and technology”.
Professor Huang once served as Dean and secretary of Party Branch of NWAFU Foreign Language Department. He has been working in our university for half a century. Now, although retired, he is still concerned about the growth of students and continues his role.
