| On October 28th, 2017, undergraduate students of Grade 2018 defensed their dissertation proposals in the No.3 Teaching Building. 137 students from Biotechnology, Bioengineering, and Bioscience were classified into four groups by their majors and research fields.
The presentation started at 8 o’clock sharp in the morning. Presentations covered research objective and significance, research background, research design, contents and methods, research schedule, expected results, and innovations. Judges from College of Life Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine, College of Plant Protection, College of Agronomy, and College of Food Science and Engineering raised questions and provided professional advices according each student’s written proposal and PowerPoint slides.
Dissertation is one of the most important parts of undergraduate practical education. Not only does the proposal solidify the education management, it also guarantees the quality of the practice. This year’s defense is optimized in terms of organization form. Each group was assigned with five judges and students were required to prepare in advance. The defense was composed of five-minute presentation and five-minute Q&A. Judges discussed and provided defense conclusions after the defense, and students were required to modify their proposals according to the professional suggestion within one week. The final copy would be reviewed and signed by the dissertation supervisor.
The year of 2017 is themed on Academic Atmosphere Construction. This October, in particular, embodies the topic of Academic Atmosphere Construction. With efforts, CIE has formed up a favorable learning atmosphere with its students performing excellently in various learning activities. This undergraduate dissertation proposal defense initiated a good beginning of the dissertation work. Students’ prominent performances, which demonstrate the progress of CIE’s teaching, were highly praised by the judges.
