CIE recently conducted multiple measures to improve student safety awareness as well as their competence to deal with emergencies. Through inspection and examination, CIE endeavours to guarantee student safety on campus.
Strengthen safety education on campus
To enhance students’ safety awareness, CIE invited officer Xia Lianjiang from Yangling Local Police Station, vice director Ding Lei from Yangling Public Security Bureau Command Centre, and instructor Jing Yanbin from Yangling Rougu Local Police Station to give reports on electronic fraud, reporting to the police, alarm policies, and how to avoid pyramid selling. The lively publicity videos and the reporters’ detailed explanations helped the students learn about safety knowledge. Gao Xiang from Grade 2017 said, “This report is beneficial. It helps me learn about safety. Particularly, the information about how to report to the police deepens my understanding about the process. If there is any emergency, I will definitely know how to go to the police quickly and correctly.”
Consolidate fire-fighting education on campus
To strengthen students’ fire safety awareness and prevent relevant incidents from happening, CIE organized “Fire Safety Education” activity. Shang Gangyu from the Security Department of NWAFU was invited to give a report on fire safety importance, fire safety code of conduct, and basic techniques in fire accidents. Shang Gangyu said that, in an early-rising fire, we can use fire-fighting equipment at hand to put out the fire given that our personal safety is guaranteed. During the training session, whose aim was to improve students’ capacity of self-rescue, early rescue, and on-site reaction, the fire coaches elaborated on fire hazard investigation, safe use of fire, how to put out early-rising fire, how to escape from fire, how to report fire, and how to use fire extinguisher, etc. They also gave detailed and thorough answers to students’ questions about relevant legal provisions and fire safety knowledge. Zhao Xinyi from Biotech Class 153 said, “I’ve learnt a lot from this training. The practical knowledge also corrected my precious wrong understanding. I believe if I ever encounter these issues, I’ll deal with them properly. I’ll also share the fire safety knowledge with my family and friends so that they’ll not make careless mistakes.”
Investigate strictly high-power electric appliances
On the evening of January 11th, CIE leadership and counsellors conducted a strict investigation on high-power electric appliances in the student community. Adhering to the policy of “safety-prioritized, prevention-oriented, and education-supplemented”, the investigation group first examined the electric appliances in the dormitory, and at the same time shared the campus fire incidents with the students. The group also highlighted that winter is the high-incidence season of fire, and that students should increase their safety awareness to avoid accident as far as possible. The issues identified during the inspection, for example, electricity line, power plug, and potential safety hazard, were logged for further correction. The group also asked about the conditions of those students who applied for staying at school during the winter vocation, and emphasized the arrangement of accommodation and personal safety. Students expressed that they would improve their safety awareness and strictly observed the university regulations during the winter vocation.
Besides safety training and inspection, students also took the initiative to develop safety habits. Youren College’s Security Department made publicity boards for fire safety knowledge. Relevant posts were also published on the new media platform to raise students’ attention to safety issues.
