On March 14th, CIE invited Prof Song Weining from College of Agronomy to give report to students of Grade2016 about wheat genomics research progress. This report, the second in the 2018 Spring Discipline Report Series, helped the students deepen their knowledge about genomics and make rational decision for their future development.
Before the report, CIE vice dean Wang Xiaoping introduced Prof Song’s professional experience and research concentration to the students, raising the curtain for the report.
Prof Song’s report covered wheat, genome size, genome composition, and genomic sequencing. By comparing the fundamental research of wheat and rice, Prof Song clarified the advantages and difficulties of wheat genomics. The abundant images also helped the students learn about wheat genomes and research notice straightforwardly, which greatly aroused their interest. During the report, Prof Song also interacted with the students and answered their questions.
“Opportunities are limited in a lifetime. Achievement and success require not only diligence and talent but also opportunities and to make use of the opportunities.” Prof Song further talked about his expectations for the college students and encouraged the attendants to work hard and seize available opportunities.
This report expanded the students’ knowledge, provided important reference to the students’ choice of major and supervisor at the current stage, and stimulated their interest in learning knowledge and exploring new things.
