On the morning of September 7th, Yang Shuang, Executive Vice President of BGI Group Company, and Yang Dongsheng, Executive Vice President of BGI College, signed the joint training agreement  on behalf of BGI College with CIE of NWAFU. This agreement is another exploration that CIE made to promote the construction of “Double First-class” disciplines of our university. This practice will help to meet the needs in professional talents in life science research and industrial development, and further explore the operational mechanism of combining colleges and enterprises to cultivate innovative talents by combining production, education and research. The cooperation is fully in accordance with the principle of “complementing each other's advantages for mutual development” and “two-way choice and merit-based enrollment”. After the signing ceremony,  Mr. Yang Dongsheng, Executive Vice President of BGI College, gave a report on “Genetic Prospects and Talent Cultivation” for the second and third grade students of our college.

The agreement stipulates that BGI College will select about 10 CIE third-year full-time undergraduate students to form innovative classes around mid-December. Those who are voluntary to make contributions to NWAFU “Double First-Class” construction and will have completed the first five (or the first six) semester-related course are allowed to apply for the project. The two sides will carry out the training of talents in life science according to the "2.5+1.5+x" or "3+1+x" mode, that is, the first five/six semesters (or the first six semesters) in CIE and the last three/two semesters in BGI College. The CIE will receive instruction of academic study, research and final thesis from two mentors from NWAFU and BGI College. The topic of final thesis( design) should fall within the scope of the relevant disciplines. CIE has been taking full advantage of research platform and given students the access to project team. They are to undertake research projects with the guidance of the mentor, receive scientific research training. To raise students' interest in learning and research, the “Excellence Scholarship”, “Further-study Scholarship” and “Innovation Scholarship” have been established. Those outstanding students are awarded every year to inspire all students to make further progress. In terms of student management, the two sides arrange special personnel to form a joint training office to co-manage the students' ideological and political education, study, life and daily affairs.

The signing of the agreement marks another innovative achievement of CIE in the reform of the training mode. It symbolizes the beginning of a new chapter in the innovation of teaching reform, and will enrich the experience in the exploration of new mode of talent cultivation and the new way of combining production, education and research.
