From November 1st to 3rd, a delegate of six CIE faculty, CIE Party Secretary Li Haihua, Associate Dean Wang Xiaoping, student mentor Professor Han Dejun, Professor Wang Yongsheng, Associate Professor Jing Xiangfeng and student counsellor Wang Ruofan, visited BGI and South China Agricultural University. This visit was expected to further open our education mind, strengthen the “university+enterprise” joint training of innovative talents and learn about the educational philosophy, training models and specific methods of domestic fellow universities in the cultivation of top-notch innovative talents, for the optimization of the cultivation model of top-notch talents in agriculture and forestry, the sustainable development of the talent training quality.

On the morning of November 2nd, CIE representatives came to Shenzhen BGI. They were warmly received by the host there. Mr. Wang Linpeng, director of the Education Center of BGI, showed them the National Gene Bank, and leading advantages and R&D achievements in the field of life sciences based on the application of "Three Databases and Two Platforms" and the National Gene Bank Life Big Data Platform. They were also told of the BGI's concept and effectiveness of  relying on high-quality scientific research platforms and high-level scientific researchers through collaboration with universities. Currently, there are three CIE students studying at the College of BGI as exchange students. As all other students there, they enjoyed the resources of high-quality scientific research platform and innovative and open training environment. It is acknowledged by the students that they benefited greatly from the instruction of high-level research personnel of the Institute and from the cutting-edge courses offered by the College of BGI. Their direct participation in the researches on frontier topics in genetic sciences has further broadened their horizons, expanded their mind, and made their research directions clear. At the same time, intense learning tasks and scientific researches serve as pressure as well as motivation, which allow them to make more rapid progress.

Next, the two parties exchanged ideas of increasing the joint training of exchanged undergraduate students, cooperation of joint cultivation of Master- Doctoral graduate, cooperative projects of NWAFU teachers and researchers of BGI’s institutes, students’ research practice in summer term and the online teaching of frontier courses.

On the morning of November 3rd, CIE representatives came to South China Agricultural University. At the reception meeting, Wang Hailin, Dean of the Undergraduate School of the host university, introduced the top-notch talent training of Dingying Experimental Class. Deputy Dean Zeng Shucai gave a detailed introduction to the talent training model, management system, enrollment scale and methods, teaching management, students’ redistribution and selection, and current challenges they have been faced with. Ma Qibin, Deputy Dean of the School of Agriculture, Tan Ying, Deputy Dean of the School of Economics and Management, and Sun Yongxue, Deputy Dean of the School of Medicine exchanged ideas of their specific practices and achievements of running Dingying Experimental Class of their colleges. The two sides conducted a full discussion on the innovation of top-notch innovative talent training model, system innovation, policy guarantee and implementation.

This visit greatly broadens CIE’s horizon and renew the educational ideas. In full accordance with our national and social needs in top-notch talents in agriculture and forestry, CIE will bring NWAFU’s advantages in discipline and resources into full play, promote the “University + Enterprise” collaboration, keep optimizing the top talents’ training mechanism, and actively fulfill the mission of top talents training.
