CIE’s Great Success in the 3rd National Undergraduate Life Science Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition

From August 7th to 8th , the 3rd National Undergraduate Life Science Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition and Award Ceremony, co-sponsored by the Teaching Guidance Committee of the Bioscience Majors of the Higher Education Institutions, the National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of the Higher Education Institutions, and the Editorial Department of the University of Biology Teaching Research, and organized by Jiangsu Normal University, were held in Xuzhou University. After fierce competition, the CIE team of NWAFU won 3 first prizes and the instructors won 3 first prizes.

The entry of the Y2014 undergraduate Li Jie team (Li Jie, Zhang Shaoli, Peng Kun, Wu Hui), The Study of Polymorphism and Genetic Effects of Sheep Prion Family Gene (PRNP and PRNT) won the first prize, and Professor Lan Xianyong from College of Animal Science and Technology of NWAFU served as the instructor;

The Y2014 undergraduate Zheng Yuxin team (Zheng Yuxin, Du Fu, Wang Junyong, Yu Yufei) won the first prize for the entry The Kelp Polysaccharide P3 for the Freezing Protection of Bull Semen. Associate Professor Jiang Zhongliang of the College of Animal Science and Technology was the instructor;

The entry of the Y2014 undergraduate Wu Wenzhao team (Wu Wenzhao, Huang Chenxi, Ke Weiwei, Cheng Zhilu, Tan Jiaxin, Liu Jiaxuan), The Evolutionary Analysis of the Plant Aux/IAA Gene Family: Dual Origin and Variable Nuclear Localization Signals won the first prize. The lecturer Ma Haoli and Professor Chen Mingxun from College of Agronomy of NWAFU are the instructors. 

In addition, the instructors were awarded First Prize Instructors. 

It is reported that this competition was launched in March 2018 and lasted nearly 6 months. A total of 1,654 projects recommended by 221 colleges and universities across China, including Shanghai Jiaotong University, Tongji University, Fudan University, Jilin University and Northwest A&F University, were received. According to the competition regulations, the competition is divided into three stages: preliminary examination, preliminary competition and the final. After qualification review, preliminary online review and rematch online review, 540 finalists were selected for the finals (including 383 innovative projects and 157 entrepreneurial projects); after the final on-site defense, all entries were ranked. The finals had 285 first prizes (198 Innovation program, 87 entrepreneurship program), 255 second prizes (185 innovation program, and 70 entrepreneurship program), and 46 outstanding organization awards.

This competition is conducive to further promoting the innovation and entrepreneurship education of college students and the colleges across the country, and building a platform for the exchange of innovative and entrepreneurial activities for national students majoring in biology, food science and animal science. It has further enhanced the awareness of our students, cultivated the interest and enthusiasm for innovation and entrepreneurship, and fully demonstrated the high-quality of CIE educational outcome and the research potential of students.
