The flipped class Advanced Maths conducted by Mr. Zheng Lifei successfully held on November 19th and 20th . The special classes allowed the students to highly engage in the class activity and further their understanding of learning contents. It is also a satisfactory practice of in-class teaching reform, as proved by the lively class atmosphere and students positive comments.
A total of 10 Y2018 CIE students participated in the interactive lecture. With the careful guidance of Mr. Zheng, the students class presentations were fully prepared in accordance with the theme of Part Integral. The presentations were professional yet interesting, so that the class was always undergone in an active atmosphere. For example, Zhao Yuchen's quoted the phrase "A sword in heart more than a sword in hand" to emphasize that the complete familiarity with the formula was a key to solving problem. Zhang Yuhang used the phrase “Getting to the deep before rising to the top”, illustrating the case where the integral was reduced on both sides of the equation. These vivid metaphors greatly bettered the students’ understanding of teaching content, showing the efforts the student reporters made for the class.
The audience great enjoyed the lively presentation. The tonal voices,the witty language style, and strategic explanation deeply impressed the students audience who marked the class style with“approachable”. They highly appreciated the new-mode of class teaching, beneficiary and informative.
The students who participated in the lectures also had rich feelings. Zhao Yuchen said: "I feel that I got the positive cooperation of the students during the lectures. Everyone is very motivated and active to interact with me. I feel that the preparations I have made for this means more than the knowledge only.” Li Yuxi said: "This flipped class activity not only allowed me to have a deeper understanding of the content I explained, but also made me realize the hard work that teachers usually make for our lectures. I will cherish every lesson from now on." Li Yiyi said: "I was a little nervous when I stood on the platform. I felt regretful for not having my ideas fully understood. But I do appreciate this opportunity learn from Mr. Zheng. Being aware of the importance of thinking about mathematics problems concentratedly in mind and time is also a great achievement for me."
This teaching activity has improved the self-learning ability of the students and built up their confidence. The students showed that they long for more similar in-class teaching activities in the future. On the one hand, they can better improve themselves, on the other hand, they will gain more experience and feelings.
