To enhance the students’ identity as a NWAFUer, CIE held the orientation activity for the freshmen. On the evening of September 15th, CIE Party Secretary Li Haihua gave a report on “ What Are Essential Qualities for A College Student”. Her speech was designed to enhance the newcomers’ understanding of NWAFU.

First, Mz. Li introduced to the students NWAFU’s history from its founding to its current situation, she shared the personal experience of renowned scholars, Academician Zhao Hongzhang and Academician Li Zhensheng who devoted their whole life to the scientific research and our university. The achievements they made was remarkable in the field of apple breeding, wheat breeding and the Loess Plateau Comprehensive Management Project.

Next, Mz. Li introduced CIE concerning its educational philosophy, development and achievements. The distinctive courses offered and the unique talents cultivation model were thoroughly interpreted. The students were also exposed to the reform initiated by CIE in education, scientific research and talent cultivation. As Mz. Li pointed out in her speech, to take good advantage of mentor resources, to learn from the excellent peers through communication and cooperation, to focus on the self-study with firm belief of pursuing truth were essential qualities that a college student should have. She also emphasized the importance of moral education in personal growth.

Every page of the power point, every single photo shown and every word said, from which the long history, tough experience, fruitful achievements and perseverance spirit greatly- impressed the students. When they fully understand the university motto and college motto, they will learn about their mission and responsibility for the development of China.
