In order to increase students’ awareness of plant protection and stimulate their interest in the endangered plants and Qinling, College of Innovation and Experiment carried out the base teaching activity in the Qinling National Botanical Garden in Zhouzhi County on April 18, 2021. Led by teachers as Ma Chuan, Zhao Lu, and Zhang Xuzhe, Students from Class of 2020 took part in this event.
Dr. Zhu Lin, director of the Research Centre of the Qinling National Botanical Garden and alumnus of NWAFU, warmly welcomed us and detailed the location and layout of the Garden, major exhibition halls and scientific research routine. It was a beautiful spring day with the sun shining up in the sky, the enthusiasm of the students also running high. Guided by Dr. Zhu Lin, students gained the opportunity to visit the halls where kept specimens and introduced botanical basics, deepening their knowledge on the Botanical Garden. Later on, students were also lucky enough to have a look at a variety of rare and unique plants introduced and cultivated by the Garden.
According to Dr. Zhu Lin, in recent years, the Garden has been making full use of its own advantages and ramping up its efforts in ecological protection, scientific research, and scientific popularization. Typically, it has carried out activities on the inventory and protection of Shaanxi native plants as well as the introduction, cultivation and research on the diversity of plants in the Qinling Mountains. As the next step, the Garden will keep on strengthening scientific research and vigorously carrying out the popularization of science, in the hope of constantly making innovative achievements in the bio-diversity protection of Qinling and build itself into a research and demonstration base in this respect.
Through this activity, students had the chance to visit the plant protection base in person and learn about relevant scientific research achievements, technological innovations and development trend in the field of plant protection, enriching their extracurricular life and deepening their knowledge of the discipline. In their spare time, they also enjoyed the magnificent scenery of the Qinling Mountains. As students of the School of Innovation and Experiment, we should always pay close attention to the accumulation of knowledge in practice, thus cultivating our interests in agriculture and forestry and developing ourselves into outstanding talents required by the country!
