On April 23, 2021, the 6th National University Honor Education Summit jointly organized by Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) and Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU) was held in the Science Hall of XJTU with the theme of “Mission and Future of Honor Education in the New Era”. There were 177 representatives from honors colleges of 55 universities in China gathering together to discuss the concept, mode and path of talent cultivation of honors colleges in the new development stage. Party Secretary Li Haihua and Deputy Secretary Li Xiangtuo from College of Innovation and Experiment, Vice Dean Jiang Zaimin from College of Life Sciences and other three representatives of NWAFU went to Xi’an to attend the meeting.

The conference was divided into two sub-forums after the main forum. In the opening address, President Wang Shuguo from XJTU pointed out that top-notch innovative talents play a key role in promoting the national development of scientific and technological innovation as well as comprehensive strength. In this sense, exploring the selection and training mechanism of talent cultivation is of great significance for the strategy of reinvigorating China through human resource development. Later in the sub-forums, the representatives in each group conducted in-depth discussion on the two themes of “Construction and Development of Honors College” and “Reform and Exploration of the Training mode of Top-notch Innovative Talents” respectively.

On behalf of NWAFU, Li Haihua, Party Secretary from College of Innovation and Experiment delivered a speech titled “Shoulder the Mission and Responsibility of the New Era by Learning and Devoting to Agriculture: Exploration and Practices on the Training mode of Extraordinary Agricultural and Forestry Talents”. In her address, Li Haihua introduced the overall design of talent cultivation of NWAFU and the thirteen years’ talent cultivation of College of Innovation and Experiment on its history, objectives, “2+1+X” training mode, scheme, curriculum, faculty, internationalization, creation and achievements. Additionally, she also reported and exchanged ideas on the new mode, mission and path of talent training of NWAFU with the attendees.

By listening to the education philosophy and reform implementation of fellow colleges, CIE not only firmed the mission and confidence of cultivating outstanding talents in agriculture and forestry but also absorbed new ideas for talent cultivation and comprehensive reform and development in this respect.

The National University Honor Education Summit has been successfully held for six years since its first session in 2015. The universities involved have gradually expanded from the earliest C9 League to Excellence 9 and Base Construction Universities of “Top-notch Plan 2.0”. The main purpose of holding the Summit is to solve the key and difficult problems faced by the current national higher education reform, thus to jointly create a new paradigm of top-notch talent cultivation and to improve the level of elite education, pursuing the modernization of China's higher education.
