To optimize the talents cultivation model and learn from the colleges of the same educational structure, with the leading of college Dean Mr. Chen Yuchun and college deputy Party Secretary Mr. Qu Yunfeng, CIE representatives of teaching and student management had a study tour on 25th September, visiting Pengkang College and Nanyang College of Xi’an Jiaotong University and the Honors College of Northwestern Polytechnical University .

Pengkang College is one of the biggest colleges of Xi’an Jiaotong University with the most complete system. There are over 3,000 undergraduates from School of Energy and Power Engineering, The School of Electronic and Information Engineering, The School of Science and The School of Foreign Studies. The host and the visitor colleges exchanged their ideas at the meeting held by Pengkang College. College Secretary Su Yubo, College Secretary assistants and the counselors of host college introduced the development, college structure and readabilities of Pengkang College. Then Mr. Chen Yuchun of A&F College of Innovative Experiment introduced the A&F Youren College,covering its establishment, development, organization, staffing, students’ cultivation objectives and all workshops, as well as the difficulties in the development. As to the common problems of both colleges, two groups shared their experiences and proposed their solutions. Then, the delegate visited the workshop and the student unions of Pengkang College.    

There are over 2,400 students in at Nanyang College, who are from 4 majors of Electronic Engineering and Automation, Technique and Instrumentation of Measurements, Computer Science and Technology and Public Administration and 1 Special Class of Gifted and Talented Students. Having been informed generally of the Nanyang College, CIE representative communicated with the host college the experience and problems of daily routine management, relationship between college and academic college, the qualification evaluation of scholarship, the reward system, dormitory management, the organization of student committee and the management of student union. Then, CIE representatives visited Nanyang College’s library, information center, rooms for private conversation, gym, student union office and other student workshops.       

Honors College of Northwestern Polytechical University is an experimental college for top-notch talents cultivation, whose education philosophy, student cultivation model and training objectives are in common with those of CIE. The two colleges have kept in close contact. At the symposium organized by the host college for experiencing sharing and idea exchanging, the new problems caused by the change of national test-free recommend graduate policies took priority over other topics. The two parties both agreed that, only by adapting to new policies can the reform in top-notch innovative talents cultivation model be further promoted. Therefore, the best solution would rely on student-centered system, focusing the reform on improving the quality innovative talents cultivation at undergraduate stage, to encourage the student with well-established system and to attract students of high quality with excellent mentors and outstanding disciplines. 

Short but targeted, this study tour has greatly benefited CIE, which helped the senior staff to work out feasible plans to further the development of CIE and Youren College.
