On May 6th, CIE Associate Dean Mr. Wang Xiaoping and secretary of college teaching affairs office Mr. Ma Chuan visited Life Science Technology College of Shanghai Jiaotong University. This visit is to help to optimize the talent cultivation program and promote the reform in education and teaching.

At the symposium, Associate Dean of host college Mr. Chen Feng extended his warm welcome to CIE delegates before he introduced his college in terms of its general information, characteristics of talent program and philosophy of internationalization of education. Mr. Wang Xiaoping then introduced CIE concerning its  cultivation model of innovative talents, optional course system, teaching appointment system, mentor system and students scientific research training program. The host and guest then exchanged ideas of education specialties, curriculum and talent cultivation.

The host college has two national bases,National Training Base for Life Science and Technology Talents and National Training Base for Biology Science Base Talents. Four majors, Biology Science, Biology Technology, Biology Engineering and Biology Information have been offered for undergraduates. Zhiyuan Class of Biology Science major is the pilot program of this college, which share similarities with CIE top-notch talents cultivation model, applying student-individuality-oriented teaching, Bachelor-Master Degree program (6 academic years) and Bachelor-Mater-Doctoral Degree program (8academic years). The host college, first, attaches great importance to the teaching of basic theory to lay students’ solid foundation of professional knowledge. Second, they stresses the students’ scientific research ability. In addition, the international cooperation of education has always been on the top agenda. They have established collaboration with many overseas universities, which provide the students with more opportunities for overseas study.  

The host and the guest also exchanged ideas of curriculum, team construction, FCM, summer vacation program, exam-free admission, and cooperation with first class international universities. It has been agreed that the cultivation plan highly involves the objectives and requirements of talent cultivation plan. First, both basic theories and cross-disciplinary and innovative scientific research training should be attached to great importance. Second, from the quality of curricula construction to the top-quality curriculum, teaching group always plays vital role in reform of talent cultivation. Last, more excellent courses should be introduced from overseas universities, while more international experts should be invited to the domestic universities, which would greatly promote the internationalization of talent co-cultivation and research cooperation.
