Lecture 4 of Ancient Chinese Civilization Held by Youren College

To carry forward the Chinese traditional culture and familiarize the students with its value, Youren college held the 4th lecture of Ancient Chinese Civilization on the evening of 7th December. In the hall of Xiushan Center of north campus, Doctor Guo Hongshui from A&F Institute of Ideological and Political Education gave over 200 people of Youren College a report themed on The Philosophy of Being Human in The Analects of Confucius. Deputy Party Secretary of Food Science and Engineering College Mr. Wang Yongpan hosted this evening activity.

Illustrated with personal understanding of the philosophy of being human in Analects of Confucius and the typical cases, Doctor Guo’s lecture revealed the core value of this classical work. Four aspects, the pursuit for harmony in diversity, the connotation and practice of golden mean, the universal principle of being human and the different levels of personhood were all covered in the report. Last, the knowledgeable lecturer talked about the essence of Confucius culture and its cultural circle, emphasizing its impact on Chinese. He then encouraged the students to read and learn the classics, so as to comprehend and practice the philosophy the works contained.

This report strengthened students’ understanding of core value of Confucius culture and have them be exposed to philosophy of the golden mean, which were instructive for the students to read and appreciate Chinese classics.
