From: CIE Teaching Affairs Office           By:      Date: 2014-03-06

Optional course of Speaking and Listening Skills is offered as usual by the foreign teacher from Maryland University Mr. Nathan Lim. Themed on cross-cultural communication, the course is designed to improve students’ communicative skills of English listening and speaking, therefore to broaden their international vision. It will be delivered to two 30-students classes with 4 hours per week.

To guarantee the success that the course has been expected, CIE and Department of Foreign Languages had discussed about the teaching content and methods with the foreign teacher with the support of A&F International Cooperation and Exchange Division, before working out the final curriculum. The first week of new term organized the application and preparation and the taster class on 26th Feb, from which students got a rough idea of the teaching content, teaching methods and teaching aims.

The first lesson was delivered at CIE on the evening of 4th March. Mr. Nathan first introduced his education background, family background and work experience, as well as the cultural differences between China and US.

To help student overcome the listening and speaking difficulties, Mr. Nathan brought in Interactive Teaching and Group Work to the class, which soon gained great popularity among the students.

The movable desks and chairs greatly support the implementation of all class activities. The heated discussion and the lively learning atmosphere highlighted the classes.
