On the evening of November 13th, in the classroom N8T09 CIE Dean Professor Chen Yuchun gave Y2013 CIE students an encouraging report at which CIE deputy Party secretary Mr. Qu Yunfeng served as host. 

Professor Chen made a brief retrospection of CIE’s establishment and development, as well as the objectives, model and distinctive features of cultivation programme. Then, taking the examples of college system in other national universities, he introduced to the student the being-constructed A&F Youren College in terms of its education philosophy, operation and significance. He explained that the college system would allow the students enjoy community life style in which accommodation and academic training combined as general education and innovative education integrated with ideologic and political education. Associations like Youren encouragement club, X innovative works club, discipline workshop, women’s reading club and Chinese traditional culture lecture are to be found for promoting the communication between teachers and students, and for improving the comprehensive qualities and abilities of students.

He suggested that solid foundation of knowledge, co-development of quality and ability, strong ability of research and practice were to be the goals of all CIE students. The students were encouraged to adapt to new college life within no time, to learn to estimate themselves and figure out their pursuits in university. In addition, taking the college talents programme of 2+X and management system into consideration, the students would do better to work out a well-organized and practical academic plan and to find out the learning methods which were as important as hard-working. Then Professor Chen advised the students be practical in choosing academic study channels, mentors and discipline in case of following suits. 

He then replied to the inquires about how the training of innovative quality associated with course study, the choosing of academic study channel and college system. He said that each CIE student  was expected to be a person with abundant knowledge and strong capabilities, a talent with sharp vision, a scholar with expanded world view, and a well-informed neoteric.

The speech was inspiring and rich in emotion which shortened the distance between the college and the students, gaining thundering applause from the freshmen. It would help the students to think over their academic and professional study and their life goal as it eliminated their confusion and built up their confidence.
