Symposium of 2012 A&F Innovative Talents Cultivation was Held

To further the understanding of educational philosophy and to promote the reform in A&F cultivating programme of excellent talents of innovation, symposium hosted by our college was held from September 1st to 3rd. A&F &Executive Vice President Professor Zhao Zhong and A&F Vice Party Secretary Ma Jianhua presented and addressed the meeting. Leaders from A&F Academic Division, A&F Student Affairs Division, A&F International Affairs Office, A&F Propaganda Department and leaders of 13 colleges attended the meeting.

Our college gave a detailed report on this topic from four aspects: our trial in the exploration, our experience in the process, our concerns over the reform and our plan on the further promotion of this programme. All people at the meeting voiced their ideas responsively, discussing about the innovation in the model, the system and the mechanism, the curriculum reform and the student management. They also showed their admiration on our exploration and our effort. In addition, they proposed many suggestions constructive to the refinement of "2+X" training programme and the establishment of college system for the training of top-notch talents with innovative spirit.

At the meeting, the 2+x education model that our college promoted earned its fame as a inspiring shock to the traditional discipline-oriented education philosophy, as the individual-centered education based on the general education of discipline that our college proposed was listed as the principal choice in promoting the innovative talents cultivation of our university. Our achievements contributed to the education and teaching reform of university as successful attempt, including the teaching-appointed system, mentor system of scientific research in undergraduates programme, internationalized teaching and the curriculum construction in general education. In particular, the teaching-appointed system, mentor system and the student-centered selection system were accepted as the effective system in the innovative talents cultivation. The problems of this programme, like the further breakthrough in education and teaching philosophy and the design of top system in talents cultivation were covered as well.

As agreed by all, the reform in the top-notch innovative talents programme was a shared target and mission of all departments and colleges, which was supposed to be put into agenda of our university as a core aim. It called for the university-wide collaboration to guarantee the fundamental teaching resources, to refine the supportive management system and work mechanism, to finally keep promoting the reform in education and teaching. To better implement the plan, we were supposed to focus our effort on the following aspects: first, we should be more open-minded, practical, brave in the reform, to gain the university-wide support; second, we should keep in accordance with the university principle of innovative talents cultivation programme, to realize the mission of training high-level academic talents with innovative spirit; third, we were determined to practice the college system; fourth, the reflection on our trials and errors were necessary and instructive for us to propose feasible and practical cultivation model.

A&F Vice Executive President Professor Zhao Zhong spoke highly of our efforts and achievements. He pointed out that, the cultivation of top-notch innovative talents has always been a vital breakthrough in education and teaching reform of our university, so the college of innovation and experiment should reflect the exploration and share the experience for the promotion of this reform.

A&F Vice Party Secretary Ma Jianhua encouraged our college that, we should learn from the famous international universities in the establishment and practice of the college system, be brave to explore a proper way for our college system in the teaching and management as the multi-disciplinary major, inter-college and inter-grade required, to promise to the greatest extent the integration of discipline-oriented education and individuality-oriented college system.
