From: Office of Student Affairs           By:      Date: 2012-05-11

On May 6th, 17 members of College Plant Science Club paid aid-agriculture visit to Tangjia Village in Wuquan County.

On arrival at the village, they couldn’t wait to hand out the propaganda materials to the farmers in the fields, helping them with the science-aided farming. The students took the notes of the problems confronting farmers in cultivating tomatoes and vegetable of other kind, hoping to offer them professional solution in the future. The students found that the tomatoes on sales were abnormal in shape, which may hinder its sales volume and price. They also paid attention to the problems which bother the melon growers, like leaf mold, shrinkage of melon seedling and the development of new varieties. The student Liu Yuan (Life Science Class103) collected several samples of abnormal tomatoes and took them back to labs for cause-finding experiment.

Students of Animal and Plant Science Club saw the visit a rewarding experience. “The whole morning just slid by us”, said Li Fan, a student of Bio-engineering Base Class 111, “The sense of responsibility increases as I realize the importance of assisting farmers. Actions outweigh the words in this point. Consulting reference books or academic supervisors, I will devote to helping the farmers to tackle the practical problems. What’s more, I hope our effort will work to increase the income of the farmers and to improve their ability to analyze and solve the problems.”

Our college has always been valuing the training of students’ innovative capacity and practical abilities. Therefore, the establishment of academy-oriented club was to foster the students’ innovative spirit, to enhance their practical ability in scientific research and to inspire their innovative thoughts. The club offers various activities and often invites experts for professional guidance. It is a platform for the students, on which the interaction between students and farmers help to enrich students’ knowledge and strengthens their ability. In particular, it build academic atmosphere for the students in scientific research and innovative practice.
