At 19:30 on 20th Nov, at the multi-media classroom of Innovation Experimental College, Ma Haoli from the College of Agriculture gave the students a splendid speech. 2015 and 2016 students attended the report.

In the first part of the report, Mr. Ma introduced his relationship with Innovation Experimental College from his study and working experiences and encouraged the students to study hard. Mr. Ma emphasized the importance of innovation to the future development. He said, the innovation of science is reflected by papers, and the innovation of technology is reflected by patents. He also shares his understanding of how to explore the innovation potential. Through Mr. Ma’s vivid presentation, the audiences learnt about how to select supervisors and the importance of choosing supervisor out of the actual case. Mr. Ma also gave examples of the seniors who dared to challenge and raise questions.

In the latter part of the report, Mr. Ma introduced his research project and experiment. He was currently working on the structure and biological functions of plant arabinogalactan proteins. Three new variables which were extracted from the statistical analysis were applied to the writing of Finding-AGP program. With this program, 47 plant species’ AGP gene families were successfully identified and their molecular evolution characteristics were analyzed. This opportunity gave students an opportunity to get access to Mr. Ma’s research and learn about the charm of research.

After the report, students actively raised questions and discussed their research with Mr. Ma. Wang Chenxu from biotechnology class 1603 said in the interview that Mr. Ma’s plain language greatly helped the students go through the confusion in college study; it also intrigued the students’ interest in scientific research and led the students to learn about basic courses so as to lay a solid foundation for the future research.

The report provided reference for first-year and second-year students to choose research directors and motivated students to set a goal. In the meantime, students’ belongings and sense of pride were stimulated.
