From: CIE Teaching Affairs Office      By: Qin Runwen & Ma Chuan      Date: 2017-04-20

On the evening of April 16th, the report titled Are You Well-prepared for the National Undergraduate Sci-tech Innovation Program was held in the CIE multi-media classroom on the ground floor. The honorable lecturer was professor Wei Yongsheng from NWAFU Life Science College. Mr. Wang Xiaoping, the CIE associated Dean presided over this evening event.

Aiming at familiarizing students with the Program, professor Wei had his report cover five aspects of the topic---its significance, history, the current Program-related activities, different levels and some tips. Informative and well-illustrated, his report has completely met the needs of audience.

At the very beginning of the report, professor Wei first introduced the development of the Program, from its initiation in first-class universities of foreign countries to its popularity in modern China. As making a retrospect to the past, he emphasized the significant role the Program has been playing in social and individual development. He pointed out that, “ there should be three dimensions in the Program---the enhancement of training in innovation and entrepreneurship abilities, the strengthening of students innovative abilities and innovation-driven entrepreneurship abilities.”

To better students’ understanding in how to initiate a sci-tech innovation activity, our honorable lecturer took the topic-selecting as examples. He made brief introduction to the practice of this field and encouraged the students to be sensitive in making options. Then, he taught the audience how to do the literature review since it was the essential ability to do scientific research. In addition to reading literature more targetedly, the ability to simplify the documents was also of equal importance. To be goal-oriented, passive in reflection and skillful in recording, are helpful for the formation of good habits. Last, professor Wei shared his ideas of other Program-related affairs. The mentors, the diary of scientific research, the team work and the fund management were all covered in his talk.

At the Q&A session, the lecturer showed his great patience and responsiveness to the questions raised by the students. The students believed that the report had greatly motivated them in scientific innovation research and laid solid foundation for their practice in this field.
