All-round and Multifaceted Arrangements for College’s Teaching during the First Summer Semester
From: CIE Teaching Affairs Office      By: Ma Chuan & Huang Ni      Date: 2020-08-03

In July 2020, NWAFU implemented the first summer semester. To ensure the teaching work under the epidemic prevention and control, the College was fully prepared for completing each task on the strict, practical and careful side.

Firstly, the College set up the courses. In total, there were 32 courses opening in the summer semester, 13 of which were initially set in the spring semester due the coronavirus epidemic (mainly laboratory and practice courses). In order to develop students’ research ability and logical thinking, the Innovation Experimental College also organized two special courses for First-year students, i.e., Research Methods and Scientific Paper Writing, Introduction to Logic.

Secondly, the College Teaching Office released the course timetable to teachers and students in advance, which was particularly elaborated upon the personalized elective system of senior students. For practice courses, the Teaching Office contacted the course teacher in advance to determine its teaching scheme, which bridged the communication gap between teachers and students so as to ensure the practice teaching going on wheels.

Thirdly, the College fine-tuned its organization of exams during the summer semester. This semester was packed with offline final exams as well as make-up exams of courses and make-up courses in the spring semester. Therefore, the Collage actively worked on organizing these exams. On the afternoon of July 30, the College Teaching Secretary carried out a specialized training for invigilators, focusing on the emergency response plan for incidents that were likely to happen when students were taking the exam. Additionally, the secretary set extra exam places for three students in quarantine to make sure they were able to sit the exam at the same time.

Fourthly, the College arranged the observation of the supervising commission of teaching experts. For the sake of further strengthening teaching management and improving the teaching quality monitoring system, the College set up the 2rd generation of teaching supervising commission and convene a meeting for taking advice of the commission members. To serve for the member experts during their supervision and instruction, the Teaching Office communicated with them ahead of time, providing them with relevant materials such as course timetable copies and observation records.

Lastly, the College continued to support students’ scientific research projects. On the premise of necessary self-protection, the College encouraged students to launch various research activities in their tutors’ laboratories. Accordingly, copious programs were set to ensure the combination of course learning and research projects, including the independent experimental program of first-year students, the scientific innovative programs of second-year and third-year students, and the research training and evaluation of final reports under the guidance of tutors.
