Professor Zhu Jie and CIE Students Attending the 12th Academic Symposium on Electron Microscopy of Five Provinces in Northwestern China

From July 5th - 7th, sponsored by Shaanxi Electron Microscopy Society and organized by NWAFU, the 12th Academic Symposium on Electron Microscopy of Five Provinces in Northwestern China was held in Yangling. Themed on the research and application of laser confocal microscopy, scanning and transmission electron microscope, and atomic force microscope, the conference had more than 300 participants from universities or research institutes in and outside Shaanxi province, including the ones from Chinese Academy of Sciences, Xi’an Jiaotong University, and Northwestern Polytechnical University. NWAFU Vice President Fang Yulin and Academician Kang Zhensheng attended and addressed the opening ceremony . A total of 42 domestic scientists were invited to give keynote speeches at the conference. More than 30 domestic and foreign microscope manufacturers such as Zeiss, Brook and Hitachi, gave strong support to this activity.

Professor Zhu Jie, director of the Shaanxi Electron Microscopy Society, and doctoral tutor of the College of Science of NWAFU, along with CIE students Wang Shancan and Wang Yifei, participated in the preparation for and the academic exchanges of the conference. The two students submitted two paper abstracts to the conference organizing committee, which were successfully selected into the conference abstract collection. In addition, in the Research Poster Competition, Wang Yifei's Poster “Co-assembly of scale collagen from Ctenopharyngodon idellus and carboxymethyl cellulose investigated by atomic force microscopy” won the Excellent Award, and their devotion to the conference organizing and the research results of their team have been widely appreciated by the experts and judges of the conference.

This event also gains strong support from our college and the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Program for National College Students. The two students broadened their horizons and  acquired new methods and ideas in technology and research. After the meeting, Wang Shancan shared his feelings : "Millions of thanks to Mr. Zhu for giving us the great opportunity to participate in meeting. It is so rewarding to me. The great efforts and fruitful researches of our teachers and the senior grade students inspired my greatly. It occurs to me that scientific research requires down-to-earth attitude and good habit of reflection on practice and learning. Being goal-oriented and working hard will finally repay us with satisfactory achievement.


Mr. Zhu Jie, professor of NWAFU College of Sciences, leads a team focusing on the research of muscle and meat biophysics, a frontier research topic involving biology, animal husbandry, food science and engineering, and physics. In recent years, Professor Zhu has fully pitched into developing students’ research ability and their practices in Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Program for National College Students. Under his guidance, CIE students published 4 SCI papers and 2 papers of Chinese core journals. 11 national level prizes haven been taken from National Competition of Life Science Innovation and Entrepreneurship by CIE students. One student is awarded the title of NWAFU Top-ten Graduate, 2 for NWAFU Excellent Graduate, 3 for NWAFU Outstanding Final Theses Winner, and for Model of NWAFU Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Among all the graduates he guided, 7 are now studying at renowned universities abroad and 26 in top universities or institutes in China.
