PROFESSIONAL STATUS
2005 up to now: Assistant professor at the Animal Breeding and Genomics Centre, Wageningen University (about 50% of my time)

1990-2005: Associate professor at the Animal Breeding and Genetics Group, Wageningen University

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
1977 up to now: Staff member at the Animal Breeding and Genomics Centre, Wageningen University. Main tasks: research and teaching in the field of animal breeding, with special emphasis on feed intake, body composition and meat quality of pigs and on other biological aspects of animal breeding.
2005 up to now: Training students in developing academic and professional skills, advising students in developing their personal study program.
2000 - 2004: Involved in the Green Piggery research project carried out at ID-Lelystad.
1990: Half a year sabbatical leave at Dept. of Biochemistry, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio, USA.
1978 - 1989: Consultant of a Dutch pig breeding organisation.
1975: Half a year training period in fish breeding research at the Norwegian Agricultural University.
till 1974: During weekends and holidays: parental dairy farm and several other farms.
MAIN TEACHING SUBJECTS Several courses on animal production and pig production, animal breeding theory, case studies in animal breeding, pig breeding, fish breeding, applied statistics, application of quantitative models, biological aspects of animal production, meat science, academic and professional skills.
STUDENTS From 1977 onwards supervised numerous BSc, MSc and PhD students in Animal Breeding and/or related topics.
RESEARCH AREAS Pig breeding programs, growth and feed intake of growing pigs, effects of feed intake capacity in growing pigs, estimation of body composition in live animals, effects of porcine somatotropin on growing pigs, transgenic animals, the use of growth models in pig production, meat quality, societal effects of pig production (animal welfare, environmental effects, etc.), feed intake and productivity of sows.
