Researcher Kong Hongzhi from Institute of Botany of Chinese Academy of Sciences
From: College of Innovative Experiment           By:      Date: 2010-09-26

On May 18th, Kong Hongzhi, Boffin Researcher of Institute of Botany of Chinese Academy of Sciences gave wonderful academic report, entitled Evolution of Flower Development Regulatory Network in College of Life Science. Over 100 teachers and students attended the report meeting.  Deputy Director of Innovative Experiment College, Wang Jun hosted the meeting.
Researcher Kong Hongzhi started from the ABC Model and Tetramers Model of floral development, and then explained in simple terms, the evaluation system of floral development regulatory network of rice (plant of monocotyledonous model) and Arabidopsis (thaliana-dicotyledonous model plant), and took the evolution of labellum of arethusa as example to prove that the duplication and differentiation of floral development gene are the driving force behind its evolution. Then he drew the conclusion that the change in the number, structure, expression and function of genes were the main reason for the change and evolution of regulatory network of floral development. Finally, Kong Hongzhi interacted with the teachers and the students present about relative research.
Kong Hongzhi is the researcher in State Key Laboratory of Botany Institute of Chinese Academy of Sciences and the doctoral instructor in Plant Systematic and Evolution. He is mainly engaged in the research of floral development of genetic evolution of angiosperm, the nuclear gene family, the evolution of regulatory network, the evolution of botanical system and the molecular phylogeny and biogeography. He hosts several key issues of National Natural Science Foundation and has published more than 30 papers in international leading journals. Meanwhile, he also serves as associate editor of Biological Diversity", Journal of Systematics and Evolution, and member of editorial board of Plant. Recently, he is employed by New Phytologist as editor, the first Asian Editor of this journal.
