Getting Everything Ready for Freshmen Orientation
From: Student Affairs Office      By: Miao Yuyang      Date: 2017-08-20

In the golden autumn days when lotus and sweet osmanthus are blooming, the Innovation Experimental College has been busily working on the orientation plan. Based on NWAFU’s 2017 freshmen enrollment instruction and the College’s practical situation, CIE has made delicate schemes and careful work divisions so as to guarantee a smooth operation of the enrollment procedure and present the college’s positive atmosphere to the student parents.

New media support

CIE gets prepared in orientation work in advance. As soon as the admission completed, CIE successively opened new media platforms such as official WeChat account, QQ group chat, Weibo, and Yiban, etc., through which students can communicate directly with the college official for inquiries or college information and updates. The new media platforms help the students know about CIE and draft their own blueprints.

Freshmen guide and related information are posted on each and every of the new media platform. Students can learn about the registration procedure and life in NWAFU, as well as blend in with the CIE family, before they reach the campus. To encourage the new students to present themselves, Commission of the Youth League Committee and the Student Union organize the event “Freshman & Fresh Summer”. Students can send the text-image recording of a meaningful activity they participated in or an interesting trip they took during the summer vacation and CIE will have it posted in WeChat. Financial support information is also available on these platforms. CIE uses QQ group chat to elaborate on information including tuition deferral “Green Channel”, groceries allowance, and transportation reimbursement etc. to help those in need.

Getting ready for the enrolment

This semester, CIE will have 100 new students. To help them fit in and satisfactorily complete the undergraduate study, CIE assigns academic advisor, student affair tutor, and academic advisor assistant for each class. Selected by competitive interviews, advisor assistants will communicate with the advisors and help with the student work. Volunteers were also recruited and trained during the past summer to cooperate with the orientation work. Units including Commission of the Youth League Committee and the Student Union are fully involved in the preparation. Students on campus are also encouraged to participate.

To prepare for the accurate support, volunteers have been assigned with different tasks. They will perform their best to communicate with the parents and arrange them to take a rest while students are led to pay tuition and check in. Volunteers will also provide consulting service regarding summer vacation arrangement, enrollment preparation, ticket booking, and tuition payment etc. Through communication, volunteers will get to know the students’ personality, family situation, and hobby and interest and accordingly make customized university plan for each of them.

With co-effort of all the units and staff, CIE’s orientation preparation and service initiatives are launched smoothly. CIE warmly welcomes the newcomers’ arrivals!
