On the evening of April 1st, 2018, Prof Lan Xianyong from the College of Animal Science and Technology gave a report to the CIE students from Grade 2016 and Grade 2017 on “sci-tech innovation project application and relevant considerations”.

The report covered “what is sci-tech innovation”, “why do we need sci-tech innovation”, and “how to make sci-tech innovation” etc. in a progressive and detailed manner. Prof Lan first pointed out the significance and function of sci-tech innovation to the college students and then elaborated on how to apply for the project and make sci-tech innovations. In the end, Prof Lan pointed out the matters needing attention during the working process and expressed the sincere hope for the freshmen of Grade 2017. The report was breezy and humorous, and its plain language aroused the students’ interest. Prof Lan also introduced several useful websites to the students during the report, which made the students feel very rewarding.

In the Q&A session, the students raised their inquiries. For example, Liu Haoyu expressed his confusion through the question “is the sci-tech innovation project provided by the supervisor or selected by the students according their interest.” Prof Lan patiently answered the students’ questions and praised the students’ initiative to raise questions.

This report is significant to the students who are preparing for the sci-tech innovation project. Liu Yidu from Class Biotech 1703 said after the report, “I have never learnt about sci-tech innovation in such a systematic manner. I did not know how to do project and I did not know the process involved so much knowledge. I am grateful for Prof Lan’s lecture as it helps me know where to start.”
